High school electronics classes, including ROP offerings, can now be approved by the University of California as area
"g" electives. There are a couple of changes that need to occur to most programs in order to achieve success in the application process. In order to be accepted, the applicant
school's electronics course must demonstrate that it supports preparation in a field of study offered by UC. Electronics Technology, Computer Repair, and Computer Networking are examples of course titles that will
generally not be accepted because UC does not offer fields of study in those areas. However, they do offer majors in electrical and other types of engineering. The typical high school electronics program
will need to undergo a name change. Electronics Technology needs to become Electronics Engineering Technology. Computer Repair and Networking needs to become Electronic Information Systems or a similar name
that aligns with current UC offerings. The safest name change for the purpose of gaining course approval is Engineering Technology/Electronics. The reason that this is the safest name change is that it has
already been approved. By "clicking" on this file link
you may download a Word document that can be modified to fit almost any curriculum that conforms to the current state frameworks for electronics courses. This frameworks was developed by instructors who are long time CCEI members. This template also links all of the course units to the current state science frameworks. This is a plus when instructors are challenged to demonstrate how tech courses reinforce instruction in the academic core areas.
If you have questions regarding the processing of your applications you may email Bob Hoskins at
